On Sunday, November 6, the second public dialogue took place. This evangelical-Mormon conversation in the greater Portland area went very well last night. It was held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Beaverton. I was on the panel with Paul Louis Metzger as the evangelicals, and Ed Stone and Spencer Fluhman sharing the LDS position. It was well attended with about 250-300 in the audience. Perhaps 60% was LDS, 35% Lutheran, and 5% misc. evangelical. Rather than discussing a particular doctrine of disagreement, a common approach in the history of such dialogues, the format this evening was a conversation on our differing sacred stories in which our different doctrines are nestled. This was followed by Q&A with the audience. Given the positive way this was received by everyone in attendance, this may become a regular event held once or twice each year.
